The 2024 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition served as a pivotal gathering for the healthcare technology industry, drawing an attendance of more than 30,000 professionals. AI was the talk of HIMSS24  

CNBC reported that generative AI was the talk of the conference, and more doctors are turning to generative AI solutions. Multiple technology companies debuted their AI-backed software, aimed at creating better workflows and experiences in a clinical environment. Healthcare Dive and Fierce Healthcare highlighted companies like Google and Oracle Health were exhibiting at HIMSS24 to showcase their latest generative AI technologies.  

Fast Company and several other outlets covered Microsoft’s announcement on the creation of their Trustworthy and Responsible AI Network (TRAIN) at the beginning of HIMSS24, promising to apply responsible AI practices in healthcare. Multiple other vendors also took advantage of the massive audience at HIMSS24 to showcase their newest activities, as reported by Healthcare IT News.  

Forbes identified the trend as well, declaring that healthcare AI took center stage at HIMSS 2024. 

Cybersecurity was top of mind for healthcare professionals 

The importance of cybersecurity and the challenges facing the healthcare industry on cybersecurity were evident at HIMSS24, and this year’s show saw even greater emphasis on the topics of cybersecurity and protecting patient data, per Modern Healthcare and Healthcare Finance News.

Improving healthcare access and quality 

HIMSS24 fostered conversations about health equity and the access to care delivery. Telehealth was a widely discussed topic, with HealthTech Magazine covering health systems that presented their governing policies for virtual care and also identify clinician burnout as a critical issue in the delivery of quality and accessible care.    

Other companies, like Phillips, shared their clinical solutions to help improve operational efficiencies, patient outcomes, health equity and staff experience.
