Policy Shaping Healthcare IT at HIMSS23

Panel session at the HIMSS Global Conference and Exhibition

Experts from all levels of government will discuss health information technology policies such as Medicare, information blocking, cybersecurity and related congressional and state activities at the 2023 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition. Slated for April 17-21 in Chicago, the event is widely regarded as the Davos Summit of healthcare technology. 

Registration is open for HIMSS23. The health ecosystem will converge to discover Health that Connects + Tech that Cares, the conference theme. 

International, Government, Health Officials on IT Policies  

Keynote, Digital Transformation and Health Equity: A Global Discussion on the Journey Ahead: Ernst Kuipers, minister of Health, Welfare and Sport for The Netherlands, and Hans Kluge, regional director for World Health Organization - Europe, will examine the challenges of access to high quality care and the real-world actions the HIMSS community can take to accelerate replicable solutions that work in communities across the world. 

Views from the Top session on the impact of the economy on healthcare: Jonathan Blum, principal deputy administrator and chief operating officer for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and other panelists will review the confluence of economic pressures on health systems. 

Views from the Top, Enabling the Digital Healthcare System of the Future: U.S. Department of Health & Human Services Deputy Secretary Andrea Palm and National Coordinator for Health IT Micky Tripathi will discuss the department’s health IT priorities and continued efforts to enable the digital healthcare system of the future. 

Views from the Top: Clinical Trials Readiness: Increasing Speed, Equity, and Impact: Grail Sipes, assistant director for Biomedical Regulatory Policy at the White House Office of Science and Technoloy Policy, and Micky Tripathi, national coordinator for health IT, will explore how 21st Century health IT infrastructure can support  several clinical standards and applications. Among them, the use of HL7 FHIR APIs, USCDI/USCDI+, and the potential for leveraging TEFCA in the future. 

Views from the Top: DoD and a Global Imperative for Better Access: Director of the Defense Health Agency Telita Crosland will speak on managing the healthcare needs of 9.6 million Americans eligible for military medicine. Crosland will address scaling digitally enhanced programs in the Military Health System.  

Views from the Top: 2023: Continuing the Journey to Health Equity: Experts will provide historical, social, epidemiological and demographic context on political and social determinants of health. They will then feature actionable, tactical and scalable policy solutions to advance health equity.
