For those coming from a non-traditional enterprise imaging specialty (such as pathology), joining the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community provides an "on-ramp" to a world that is difficult to obtain through other means.
My introduction to the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community was through participation in the Multimedia Interactive Content Reporting Workgroup. Our forthcoming whitepaper on multimedia interactive content reporting was a great collaborative effort and is something that makes me proud.
My advice is to get involved with a workgroup or committee within the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community if you can. Interacting closely with established experts in enterprise imaging has been the most rewarding and educational part of my experience.
All of my biggest challenges are yet to come. For example, exposure to enterprise imaging knowledge has forced me to recognize the technical debt we have accumulated through non-DICOM storage of our miscellaneous pathology images. Solving that issue alone represents an enormous task.
At HIMSS, our vision is to realize the full health potential of every human, everywhere. Be part of the community that’s transforming the global health ecosystem with courage, curiosity and determination.
