On Monday, March 28, 2022, President Joseph R. Biden submitted his administration’s budget request for fiscal year (FY) 2023 to Congress. In total, the Biden Administration presented plans for $5.8 trillion in federal spending in FY 2023. This includes plans for generating nearly $2.5 trillion in new tax revenue, of which $1.5 trillion is targeted for new federal spending, with $1 trillion for federal deficit reduction.
The Administration focused its budget proposal on several areas, including demonstrating a commitment to a whole-of-government effort to advance equity and racial justice. The budget proposal also puts funding forward to build evidence capacity across the federal government and support federal agencies in using evidence to advance their work through engagement in high-quality evaluations. The request introduces a four-part Unity Agenda that prioritizes mental health, drives transformational innovation to fight cancer, delivers on our commitments to Veterans and addresses the opioid and drug overdose epidemic.
